A trip to experience the dramatic scenery and wildlife around Thakhek and travel through a 7.5km cave to emerge in truly beautiful, peaceful settings.

 

Day 1: Depart Thakhek at 8.30am and drive to Khammoune Province which has many dramatic Karst formations. If you are lucky you may get a chance to have a boat ride in an old B52 bomb converted into a boat. We then have lunch at Dong Ampham National Protected area at the village of Ban Hin. We then go through the protected area to observe the ecosystems in the local forest before returning to Ban Hin to spend the night there.

 

Day 2: A half day trek to several beautiful waterfalls in the region. This is a moderate trek. We arrive at a local village late afternoon and a enjoy a village stay with the head of the village where you will see how local people really live in vallages away from tourists.

 

Day 3: After breakfast we will take a short ride to Sala Hin Boun where you will spend the night but also start your memorable 3 hour boat cruise up the river to the Khong Lor Cave, the longest cave in all of Laos.

We will have lunch at a nearby village here in an area home to a variety of wildlife including monkeys and several big cats including the Clouded Leopard, Civet Cat and Tiger. There are also many rare orchids and other fauna here.

 

Day 4: After breakfast we spend the day exploring the area. We trek up nam Hin Boon to the mouth of a limestone cave. There are many large caves to explore. We will go 1km through one and have a barbecue lunch on the other side before returning to Sala Hin Boun.

 

Day 5: We return up river for the return journey to Thakhek. Once at Bin Hin Boun we stop for lunch before continuing on to finish at Thakhek.
